A member of the Worthing based Regnante School of Performing Arts since the age of two, Lottie said she was excited for her first performance and ’hoped to get it right.’

She added: “I’m very happy, it’s like a dream come true. It’s like an adventure, I’m just excited.”

Lottie’s mum, Rachel Sicilia, 43, said: “It’s unbelievable really. It’s quite amazing for her and the family.

“I will be a bit nervous at the first show and there will be floods of tears.”

The musical is inspired by the Roald Dahl children’s novel of the same name and has been adapted for the stage by Dennis Kelly, with music from Australian comedian Tim Minchin.

Matilda was the first major production Lottie had ever auditioned for.

Amelia Regnante, principal of RSOPA, suggested Lottie audition for the part after she received an email from the production company.
