Events took place across the area.

Worthing High School ran its first community and charity event on Friday, a cake sale and baking competition, as part of the Macmillan Coffee Morning event. After school, from 3.15 to 5pm, students and staff sold cake alongside tea and coffee in the school’s Millennium Hall.

Ben Carter, charity and community coordinator, said: “We held our bake sale on Friday, and raised £280 for McMillan Coffee morning, as well as giving out prizes for the best student and parent baker.”

Steyning Cricket Club also hosted an event. Carol Wagstaff, event organiser, said: “This year I decided to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning, in memory of my father, and several friends who lost their fight to cancer. We were fortunate to be given with the support of Macmillan, which helped us. From the sale of coffee and cake, and a raffle, we managed to raise an amazing £1,100. With special thanks to Steyning Cricket Club for donating the venue, local businesses, and friends for the wonderful raffle prizes, and the support of friends. As many as a hundred people passed through the door.”

Arun District Council also smashed its fundraising record. Staff fundraising team IGNITE, supported by officers, councillors and businesses, hosted an event to raise money for the charity. Proceeds from the coffee mornings totalled £1,273.

Other events were held at Spokes in Littlehampton and Bupa Regency Court Care Home in Littlehampton.
