LIFEBOAT crews were alerted when a pile of clothes was found on Lancing beach.

A member of the public found the clothes and raised the alarm, fearing someone was in trouble out at sea.

The Shoreham all-weather and the inshore lifeboats were launched at 7.30am on Sunday.

On route, the crews were informed that a man had made it ashore.

An ambulance crew treated the man on the beach, as he was suffering from the affects of the cold water.

Both lifeboats were returned to station on Kingston Beach.

Five days previously, the inshore lifeboat was launched to a report of a small rowing boat possibly stuck on a sand bar, with one person in the water between Lancing and Worthing.

The boat launched at 9.30am last Tuesday and once at Lancing, it was established it was a small fishing boat, which had come ashore.
