Much to celebrate in Lancing with GSCE results

At Sir Robert Woodard Academy 41 per cent of students achieved five GCSEs grades A*-C including English and maths.

High achievers included Danielle Herrington who earned 13 A* grade plus one A grade, Tom Nulty with seven A* grades and six A grades, Maisie Stephenson with five A* grades plus five A grades, Josh Baker with four A* grades and six A grades and Daniel Porter four A* grades plus six A grades.

The school said: “The following subjects achieved 100 per cent A*-C grades or their equivalent: Art & Design, Sport, Travel & Tourism, Business, Construction, Economics, Health & Social Care, Music and Acting.

“SRWA stand by the decision not to alter students’ programmes of study in a knee jerk reaction to changes to qualifications during students’ courses. “Whilst acknowledging the impact this would have on the academy’s headline figures, individual student’s outcomes will always be our priority.

“SRWA will not be alone in having made difficult choices regarding league table ‘performance’. However, SRWA is committed to the education of the whole child and will continue to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that serves the needs of all students.”

Meanwhile, at Lancing College, 19 per cent of students achieved a ‘clean sweep’ of A* and A grades, with an overall school pass rate of 93 per cent.

Matilda Dichmont achieved 11 A* grades and will study maths, further maths, biology and chemistry A Levels, with a view to reading medicine at university.

Daniel Brooks gained 11 A* grades and one A, Owen Brooks achieved ten A* and one A, Grace Hanna gained nine A* grades and two A grades, Emma Warner achieved nine A* grades and one A and Beatrice Spence from Steyning gained eight A* grades and two As.

Headmaster Dominic Oliver said: “Congratulations to our GCSE candidates on their hard work and splendid results in a wide range of subjects.

“These studies, complemented by the many opportunities beyond the curriculum that Lancing offers, represent an excellent foundation for their A Level years.

“It’s good to see that well over half of our results are graded A* or A. As ever we will have a hugely positive ‘added value’ score this year: Lancing brings out the very best in the young people in our care.”
