A NEW drop-in service aimed at people with learning disabilities is now available, thanks to a Worthing charity.
Worthing Mencap has launched its new initiative, My Network, to encourage people with learning disabilities to come forward with any concerns ranging from checking what day the bins go out to health problems.
Jenny Stead, My Network co-ordinator, said: “My Network has been set up in light of the government reducing support services. Some of my customers come in and they have previously had two hours of support a week and they have now had that taken away from them.
“We often do craft activities and have guest speakers in – it’s just somewhere that people can feel comfortable.”
The charity is also recruiting as part of its Buddys for Buddys campaign, which is encouraging people to come and help out in any way they can.
“We are calling out for people that will be prepared to maybe come in and have lunch with one of our customers, or even just help out with a little bit of transport or communication,” Jenny added.
The sessions will be held at Buddys Café in South Farm Road, Worthing, on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-5pm, and on Thursdays, from 9.30am to 1.30pm, at Dove Lodge, Littlehampton.
