WORTHING’s brand-new swimming pool moved another step closer when a traditional topping-out ceremony was held high above the town.
Mayor Charles James and youth mayor Cam Hughes laid the last piece of aluminium capping on the highest point – 15 metres – of the roof of Worthing’s newly christened Splashpoint pool on Thursday.
The symbolic act, known as a topping-out ceremony, is part of a construction tradition that marks when a build reaches its highest point.
Despite heavy rainfall, project manager Lawrence Wilson, from Morgan Sindall, said the £17.9million pool was on schedule to be completed by mid-April next year.
He said: “We’ve just finished the steel structure and now we’re moving to the internal phase. We thought this was a good moment to hold the topping out ceremony.”
