This week, Gerald Illsley, from the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne, gives an update on the latest and future goings-on.

As one of the town’s three Rotary clubs, we are always delighted to meet local people, help local charities and support local events ourselves.

In particular, we were delighted to see in last week’s Herald that see that Worthing Rotary were the worthy recipients recently of a grant for charity activities.

These donations are often a lifeline for our local clubs; we are always busy and ready to help local good causes.

Last week we left our headquarters at the Ardington Hotel, in Steyne Gardens, for our own event to support local good causes.

On Thursday. June 18, we held our Flower Demonstration Afternoon at Field Place, Worthing.

In an excellent venue in front of more than 80 enthusiasts, our well-known, professional and local demonstrator, Lucinda Knapman, of Broadwater Flowers, Ferring, enthralled her audience with her skills and imaginative, attractive displays.

From table-top displays to corporate and floor-displays, Lucinda made the afternoon engaging, entertaining and great fun.

And it was not just petals and greenery; tea and refreshments were included to round the afternoon off in style and with a great atmosphere.

Very many thanks Lucinda for showing us how, and very many thanks to the members of the audience for attending and helping Worthing Steyne Rotary Club as we raised £650 for The Gateway Club, in Lancing.

Thank you all very much.

As an aside, in our last round-up there was news of our club reaching a Rotary District competition.

A surprise and very serious thing for us, as we compete very year but have rarely reached a final round – especially at darts!

Two weeks ago we foraged off north, to Southwater, to play the Horsham Rotary Club.

After a long and tough match, with arrows flying with great intent, we managed a close second – so could not bring any prizes back to Worthing, but we enjoyed the evening.

So why not come along and meet us?

Find out what else we do and what we are planning for 2015 – no obligations – Monday evenings at the Ardington Hotel.
