We recently hosted a conference at the hospice about caring for people with advanced liver disease, which I am delighted to report proved to be really popular.
Our education suite was packed full of St Barnabas House staff, local GPs and other healthcare professionals who were invited to hear talks from a number of experts in the field of liver disease.
The conference began with an introduction by Andrew Langford, the CEO of British Liver Trust, who it was a real pleasure to welcome to the hospice.
Throughout the day there were talks from various researchers, consultants in gastroenterology and hepatology, and other healthcare professionals covering a broad spectrum of topics about caring for people with advanced liver disease.
The conference was a joint collaboration with Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The feedback we received from this conference was really positive and we are already planning to hold more similar events for other specific diseases.
During 2016 we launched a new liver supportive care service to support local people with advanced liver disease, employing Kim Batchelor as our new liver supportive care nurse specialist.
Kim’s role is focused on providing a high quality service to manage the symptoms and provide support for psychological and emotional needs that may occur as a result of the disease.
