Plans approved for new Durrington restaurant

OUTLINE permission for a new restaurant north of West Durrington’s Tesco Extra store has been approved by Worthing councillors.

A planning committee meeting gave the go-ahead for a 1,325sq.m restaurant/café (A3) unit, in Fulbeck Way, which would be part of the West Durrington District Centre.

The application also included a smaller A3/A1 (retail) unit with a floorspace of 268sq.m.

An officers’ report said the development would complement existing commercial facilities at the centre. Although the 30 planned car parking spaces was significantly below the West Sussex County Council recommended standards, the site was well located for linked trips to the district centre, and the potential shared use of the centre’s car park.

The outline permission restricts trading hours from 8am to 11pm on all days, with no outdoor eating permitted after 9.30pm. Also, no deliveries are allowed before 7am and after 7pm, and no external lighting is to be installed without approval.

A full application will be made later and, if approved, the restaurant business will be marketed.
