Police appeal after woman raped in Tarring

Detectives are searching for a man who raped a woman in a Tarring street during the summer.

At about 10pm on Sunday, July 26, the woman who is in her early fifties, had been sitting on a bench in a small park area opposite Thomas A’Becket School, where the road meets Rectory Lane and Tarring’s High Street.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Having just been to the nearby Tesco Express, she was attacked from behind by a man who raped her and stole £20 before making off.

“The woman made her way home and the incident was reported to the police on December 7.”

The man is described as white, about 5ft 9in, of muscular and broad build, with prominent front teeth and short brown hair. He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt and jeans, according to police.

Detective Constable Graham Gray said; “There have been no other similar assaults in this area recently.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who can assist us.

“Were you in the Tarring High Street area on the last Sunday evening in July this year and if so did you see the man or the incident? Have you seen a man of this description in the area since then?

“If you can help, please contact us on 101@sussex.pnn.police.ukor call 101, quoting serial 1022 of 07/12.”
