ARRESTS have been made for separate drink driving offences in Worthing.
On Tuesday (March 15), police stopped 19-year-old Ben Pearson at 11.45am, in Harrow Road, for an unrelated traffic offence and gave him a roadside breath test after they smelled alcohol on him.
Pearson, of North Road, Lancing, provided a positive breath test and will now appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on March 25 for charges of drink driving and driving without insurance.
On the same day, Silvio Iuliani, 40, was stopped, in Meadow Road, at about 1.15pm.
Iuliani, of Grinstead Lane, Lancing, was subsequently charged with drink driving and will appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on March 28.
Morning checks were being carried out across the area when the arrests were made, and both men were stopped for unrelated traffic incidents before giving positive breath tests.
Sergeant Damian Merrifield, from West Downs RPU, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to remind people of the dangers of drink driving and reiterate the importance of being particularly careful if you have been drinking the night before, especially if you know that you will have to get behind the wheel the following morning.
“The campaign against drink drivers is not limited to just Christmas and summer – it remains one of the strategic priorities for officers from the road policing unit and we will continue to arrest and charge motorists who are breaking the law and who are prepared to put other people’s lives at risk.”
