Police services will be protected despite £52million cuts
Martin Walker is the new divisional commander
A TOP Sussex Police officer has pledged to protect public services despite cuts of £52million and around 1,000 job losses.
In a statement, released today (Tuesday, March 1) Chief Superintendent Martin Walker said the changes would make the force more efficient and cut out bureaucracy.
From April 1, the North Downs and West Downs policing divisions will merge.
Sussex Police said the changes will provide a more “focused, streamlined” approach to policing.
However, reduced opening hours for several police stations, including Shoreham, Steyning, Lancing and Littlehampton, are also being considered.
Chief Superintendent Walker, the new divisional commander for West Sussex, said: “This new model would mean less bureaucracy for everyone, less paperwork for frontline officers and more opportunities for them to use their own discretion to do the right thing.”

Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 01:06 PMIf public services can be protected after cutting £52 million, why has £52 million pounds been wasted annually on bureaucracy in the past ? I would suggest Sussex Police Authority should be considering resignations as they spend over £1 million pounds annually to oversee Sussex Police's activities. There is a mistake of some sort in this reporting or something is seriously wrong with the senior management of Sussex Police ?

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:31 AMHow can a heavily cut force be cut? Signs of previous cuts could be the high number of speed cameras and the closure of the previous Worthing Police Station. Are there any other signs, such as an increase in youth violence?
