West Sussex County Council appeal to knock down a former Lancing school

CAMPAIGNERS have slammed the decision of West Sussex County Council (WSCC) to appeal against a planning decision at the 11th hour.

Residents involved with the Save Our School Site (SOSS) campaign have expressed their anger and frustration after the county council decided to fight Adur District Council’s decision made six months ago.

The original plan was for outline permission to demolish the county council-owned Willows School, in Irene Avenue, Lancing, and the West Lane youth centre, and replace them with 23 homes and flats.

However, the district council said it was not convinced the facility was surplus to requirement and turned the plan down.

Now, on the final day the county council could appeal against the decision, it has asked the Planning Inspectorate to look at the case.
