Worthing Borough Council has called on residents to become “neighbourhood champions” by helping sweep up their roads of leaves.

Simon Redhead has been sweeping up autumn leaves every year in Westcourt Road and Pembury Road to help keep his corner of Worthing as clean and tidy as possible.

The council has urged others to do the same.

Clive Roberts, cabinet member for the environment, said: “I have a lot of respect for residents like Simon who give up their time to help our cleansing team keep Worthing clean and tidy.

“By keeping his small area free of leaves he is allowing our cleansing team to focus on more heavily trafficked and higher profile parts of the town. His pride in his part of Worthing is admirable and I hope others follow his lead.”

Those who are interested in improving their local area can also become “neighbourhood champions”.
