REGENERATION works have been disrupted this afternoon by an old tree that fell onto the site.

The tree came down in Liverpool Gardens around 3pm where workers were digging as part of the phase one regeneration scheme for the high street.

It is believed the tree was rotting near the base, although this has yet to be confirmed.

The tree snapped from the base and fell into the middle of the site, but none of the workers were injured.

An operation is currently underway to remove the tree.

Alexander and Liverpool Terrace have been closed temporarily, and are expected to re-open late tonight.
