SCHOOLCHILDREN and their families enjoyed a picnic to celebrate their school’s 25th anniversary.
The Laurels First School in Winterbourne Way, West Durrington, held a special fun day organised by parents’ group Friends of the Laurels School.
There were lots of activities for the children during the morning, including face painting and cake decorating.
In the afternoon friends and families joined in the fun as everyone enjoyed a picnic.
The day ended with a grand raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. Among the items up for grabs were tickets to a number of attractions including Worthing’s Splashpoint swimming pool, local theatres, and Fontwell racecourse.
Head teacher Amanda Dingwall said: “The children loved it. There were big smiles on their faces.
“They really enjoyed having their parents come and share the day with them.”
Quite a few of the parents who attended on the day were at the school when it opened 25 years ago.
The school has grown considerably since it opened in 1988 when there was only a single classroom and 11 children enrolled at the school.
Now the school has seven classrooms and 170 pupils.
The school is building a new library over the summer holidays which will take around eight weeks to complete.
