Organisers announced that this year’s event would be based on Adur’s maritime history at a special exhibition of student artwork at Lancing Parish Hall on Saturday.

Adur Sea of Lights organiser Andrea Ballance said the announcement had gone down a storm.

“We are keeping things fresh and exciting,” said Andrea.

“We are really looking forward to celebrating the past communities of Adur and our current sea-themed community, the water-sports community.”

The team behind the festival joined forces with art students from Northbrook College, who based their graphic-design projects on the event, and held their end-of-year exhibition at the parish hall.

Organisers chose one of the students, Vanessa Romero, to work with on designs for the festival this year.

“It was really a proud moment for the event to share an exhibition with Northbrook College and North Lancing Primary School and even the Sompting scarecrows. A true community project, said Andrea, adding that the children had loved the smugglers’ lanterns the team had designed for them.

As well as the exhibition, there was also an lantern-making workshop.

Andrea said the students’ work had been ‘amazing’.
