Second armed robbery in Worthing

POLICE are linking two armed robberies in Worthing.

At around 7.15pm last night (Wednesday, October 4) a man entered Bet Fred in Brougham Road and threatened a male member of staff with a knife. The man demanded money.

The suspect ran from the store without any money after becoming aware that there was a customer in the shop. He ran east along the road and then got onto a small bike

The suspect is described as white, 20 to 30 yearsold, 5f 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of average build, with a southern accent. He was wearing a black jacket, black woollen gloves and dark grey balaclava. He was carrying a knife and a green plastic bag.

Detective Constable Jamie Carruthers of West Sussex CID said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the area around the betting shop before the incident or anyone who saw a man leaving the shop and getting onto a BMX-style bike with a green plastic bag and riding away.”

Detectives are linking this incident with a robbery at Ladbrokes in Rowlands Road on Tuesday evening.

Anyone with information which might assist police with their investigation is incident is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
