Second cardiac cath lab up and running at Worthing Hospital

W36530H12 The new refuribished cath lab

W36530H12 The new refuribished cath lab

JUST as one brand-new area of Worthing Hospital starts treating patients, another is in need of extra funds to make it a reality.

Thanks to the support of the community who have supported the hospital’s ongoing £1million fund-raising appeal for a second cardiac cath lab, it is now up and running.

Since it opened at the start of August, 51 angioplasty procedures have been carried out, compared with about 30 when there was just the original lab.

Bob Hatrick, consultant cardiologist, said: “Having a second is brilliant. It means there’s equal access for patients at St Richard’s, who previously had to wait much longer to come to Worthing for treatment. It also means, in most cases, procedures can be carried out straight away.”

• For full report and interview with cardiologist Bob Dissanayake, see this week’s Herald & Gazette newspapers, on sale now.
