A SOMPTING personal trainer made history when she was one of the first people to cross the finish line of the new Olympic stadium.

Personal trainer and Nordic walking instructor Linda Rusby, from Berriedale Drive, Sompting, took part in the National Lottery Olympic Park Run, held in east London, after she was picked from a pool of more than 43,000 applicants.

Linda, who was competing against celebrities and athletes, said: “This was a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run around the new Olympic Park and sprint the final 300 metres on the newly-built Olympic Stadium running track.

“It was an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Held as a thank-you for the ongoing support of the 2012 Olympics, the five-mile run was hosted by presenter Holly Willoughby and former 400m sprinter Iwan Thomas.

It was also watched by 10,000 invited spectators.
