‘Spectacular’ shed fire in Sompting

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a “spectacular” shed fire yesterday (Friday, July 15).

Crews from Worthing Red Watch were called to Grafton Gardens in Sompting at 6pm following reports of a plume of black smoke.

Watch commander Steve Bonniface said: “On the way there we were surprised by the sheer volume of black smoke in the sky - it was a spectacular shed fire.”

Mr Bonniface said it is not known how the large shed caught fire.

“The fire spread to the nearby fence, shrubs and trees. We believe the fire may have started as an accident caused by children, but the cause is now under investigation.”
