Worthing businessmen Simon Coates, 53, and Michael Bradley, 45, will open the store in Broadwater later this month, creating 20 jobs in the process.

Their latest acquisition will add to their current presence in Broadwater Street West, as they also own the KFC restaurant opposite.

Mr Coates said: “I am thrilled to be opening a Starbucks here. We have great faith in the future of Broadwater and we love being part of the local community.

“Starbucks is an iconic global brand which has a proven track record of creating jobs, supporting local suppliers and community projects and serving great coffee.

The duo, who own Cobra Restaurants, will pay for a number of their new staff to complete college and university degrees – something they have done for staff and apprentices at KFC.

Over the last 13 years, the businessmen have donated more than £10,000 to community projects, including Eastbourne Football Club and various schools and charities.

The new Starbucks will be 100 per cent carbon-efficient, through recycling or burning of all its rubbish to generate electricity.

Mr Coates said: “We believe strongly that businesses should be part of the communities they serve and are looking forward to playing our part in helping our young people get jobs, investing in our local area and helping to protect the environment.

“There will also be a community board in store so that people can advertise their upcoming events.”

As reported in the Herald and Gazette in recent weeks, Starbucks’ arrival has had a mixed reaction.

Cappuchinos owner Mike Hall said he hoped his regular customers would support him and Gavin Loveridge, of Muldoons, said it was a ‘shame’ that a big brand was moving into the area.

The new Starbucks is set for opening on Saturday, while a planning application for a town centre branch has also been lodged.
