Suicide threat leads to traffic delays in Worthing

TRAFFIC was diverted for nearly two and a half hours while emergency services dealt with a man who was threatening to commit suicide.

Firefighters, police and ambulance services were called to Chatsworth Road, Worthing, on Thursday at around 4pm after a man threatened to jump from the top of the NCP car park.

While the man threatened to jump, police diverted traffic in Chatsworth Road in the opposite direction, onto Chapel Road, causing congestion on Chapel Road.

At 6.40pm the man came down from the top of the car park and was detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act.

He was taken to Worthing Police Station and was then transferred to hospital.

He was cold but not injured.
