The Apple App Store has approved a new app designed by a Sussex entrepreneur that is designed to stop lorry drivers falling foul of the migrant chaos as they pass through Calais.
Hauliers face fines of £2,000 per migrant if they travel into the UK with a someone concealed on their lorry and the prospect of their cargo being written off if they are carrying food or other consumables.
From the security of their own cab, the BF Intelligence app allows drivers to report any sightings of migrants accessing a lorry. A message is instantly passed to the registered company that owns the lorry alerting them that their vehicle security has been breached.
Jeff Scott, the Eastbourne businessman who developed the BF Intelligence app, said, “We’ve all seen the chaotic pictures of migrants risking their lives trying to access lorries bound for the UK.
“Every day they try to break through locks and cut through canvas before climbing on-board. It’s impossible for drivers to see what’s going on directly at the rear of their vehicles, on top and underneath, especially with so many people utterly desperate to make the crossing.
“The BF Intelligence app provides 360 degree surveillance courtesy of fellow drivers and equips them with a simple to use mechanism that creates a real-time report that is routed to the owners of the lorry warning them that they have migrants stowed away.
“It’s fully approved by Apple and is available to download now.”
The app was officially launched today (September 2) and can be downloaded by visiting the Apple Store.
