POLICE stood guard at town centre shops as tax protesters demonstrated outside.
A small group of campaigners waved placards at stores in Montague Street, Worthing.
Acting chief insp Allan Lowe, police commander for Worthing and Adur, said the demonstration on Saturday, December 18 passed off peacefully and there were no arrests.
He declined to say how many officers were on duty for “operational reasons”.
The demonstration, by Worthing Solidarity Network, was organised to protest against cuts in funding to public services and increased student tuition fees.
John Hughes, a member of WSN, said: “The message is that cuts are not inevitable – the banks and tax-evaders caused this crisis, not public services and their workers, students, teachers or ordinary people.”
