Amberley, described as the Pearl of Sussex, will once again be opening its gardens to the public.

Around 21 gardens from small to large, formal to informal, each offering a different perspective on the village will be open from 12pm to 6pm today (Sunday June 12).

The event will also be celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday with glimpses of one or two Corgis and red, white or blue flowers.

The plant stall at Oak Tree will be offering a wonderful variety of plants and there will also be a host of refreshments at St Michael’s Church Hall and Amberley Village School.

Ploughman’s lunches will be served from 12pm and teas from 2pm with a selection of delicious cakes and scones.

The event will also be raising money for Action Medical Research, founded in 1952 by Amberley resident Duncan Guthrie.

Special guest Paddington Bear will be wandering around and the ever popular tombola makes its return with a selection of prizes to be won.

Free parking will be provided on the field adjacent to School Road and on the B2193 next to the recreation grounds.

The village bus will run continually throughout the afternoon from The Square to The Sportsman and the gardens at Crossgates

Tickets will cost £6 and include the programme. They will be on sale from 12pm in The Square and at the junction of Church Street and Hog Lane by the Croft path. Children under 16 years go free.

A spokesman for the event said: “We are extremely grateful to our event sponsor, King & Chasemore, and supported also by Waitrose, Storrington Branch. A special thank you to a local artist for his painting of flowers, used on all our fliers and posters.”
