Shelter delivery hitch for Littlehampton's long bench

THE second of two large seafront shelters will not now be delivered to Littlehampton tomorrow (Friday, July 9).

The 11.3 tonne galvanised steel structure was due to be lifted into place alongside the Promenade by a giant crane tomorrow, but Arun District Council said circumstances beyond its control had delayed the delivery until next week, on a day yet to be finalised.

On Monday the first of the shelters, part of Littlehampton's longest bench project, was lowered onto its base after a tricky journey on a low-loader lorry from Southampton (see this week's Littlehampton Gazette for the story).

A spokeswoman for Arun District Council said: "We are disappointed the shelter won't be here on the date planned but we are looking forward to its delivery next week.

"Unfortunately factors beyond our control have caused the short delay, however this has not dampened our enthusiasm for this unique project."
