A NEW copse of trees appeared at Worthing’s Rotary Recreation Road when 35 Rotarians and friends planted more than 50 saplings donated by the Woodland Trust.
The three club presidents, Trish Sullivan (Rotary Club of West Worthing), Jim Farley (Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne) and John Rogers (Rotary Club of Worthing) led the event at the ground in Upper Brighton Road. They were helped by Scouts from groups around the town and Scout District Commissioner Robin Strange.
The event marked the royal jubilee year and special birthdays for Rotary locally.
The Worthing club celebrates its 90th birthday and the West Worthing Club its 60th birthday during this very eventful year.
John Rogers said: “The tree planting was a useful exercise by drawing attention to the need for all of us to safeguard the environment and it was a fitting tribute to the Queen who has served our country and the commonwealth so faithfully over the past 60 years.
“We are very grateful to the Woodland Trust for supplying the trees and to the Scouts for their enthusiastic support and also to friends who braved the elements on the day.”
