A WOMAN who was knocked down by a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run is being treated in hospital for head injuries.
Despite being thrown from the bike, the rider got back on and drove away along Penstone Park, before abandoning his vehicle and jumping into a van.
The van then drove away but police managed to track it down and arrest the two people inside.
The motorbike was driving south towards the railway line when it hit the woman as she tried to cross the road.
The victim, who is believed to be in her late sixties, was taken to Brighton Hospital with a suspected fractured skull.
Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident.
North Road is currently closed while crash investigators examine the scene.
