However, traffic coming towards the roundabout from Palatine Road or Limbrick Lane will be diverted later this evening (December 6).

A spokeswoman from Southern Water confirmed the new diversion will ‘be in place for a few days’.

She said: “Our work to repair the burst main is progressing well and the roundabout has just reopened to traffic from all directions.

“However this new diversion will be in place for a few days – sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

Southern Water submitted an application last Thursday (November 29) for a 14 day road closure order to repair the main, which burst on Friday, November 25.

A spokesperson said that while the repairs were ‘unlikely’ to take two weeks, the order allowed for ‘unforeseen events’.

The spokesperson added that there are two high voltage power cables running directly on top of the damaged water main and that the company are having to work closely with utility partners to be able to allow access to repair the main.
