TRAVELLERS have returned to Halewick Lane in Sompting.

Around 20 caravans set up camp around the children’s play park last night after breaking down a section of fence next to the allotments, just as travellers did last time they occupied the site.

It is not yet known if it is the same group as before.

Residents have reported incidents of youngsters being chased off the play equipment by children from the camp.

Sompting Parish Council Chairman Barry Mear said he thought the village had seen the last of the travellers for this year.

“I’m just hoping Adur Council can take action on Monday morning and just get them shifted or get an order to get them out,” said Mr Mear.

“Really we should have been a aware because they moved them on from Brighton.

“Maybe we could have done what we did before with the cars around Sompting Rec.

“I thought summer was coming to an end and that would be the end of it but obviously not.”
