A Worthing councillor has announced her resignation after more than a decade in post.

Joan Bradley has served Marine ward since her election in 2004.

She stood and was re-elected in May, 2016, following a period of absence from the council chamber due to ill health.

But the council confirmed today (Thursday, May 18) she was retiring.

Leader Dan Humphreys said: “I want to pay tribute to Joan for the contribution she has made to the town and the wider authority during her time as a councillor.

“Serving since 2004 she has seen the borough change an awful lot. As a long-standing chairman of the planning committee she became a well-known figure across the borough, always taking on board a range of views and acting with fairness.

“I wish her all the best for the future.”

The resignation could trigger a by-election. No details have been confirmed.
