It’s an iconic building that has stood in Shoreham for decades.

Now a photographer has captured Shoreham Cement Works from a rarely-seen angle using a drone.

Scott Wright from Shoreham used the machine to take aerial shots of the derelict building, and the resulting video has gone viral on Facebook, with more than 15,000 views.

The 37-year-old photographer was compelled to make the video after regularly driving past the building.

He said: “I have always been a fan of the cement works, and find the building fascinating. The only real view I see is from the front while driving and I really wanted to find a unique way to film and document the building.

“There has been lots of ideas for development on the site and my long photography career has taught me the importance of capturing something before it has gone forever.”

Scott filmed the video during the summer last year before work using a a DJI Phantom 3 drone.

“Due to the early morning sunlight, it meant I could shoot at around 5.30am before my working day started and when it was less disruptive for employees at the site,” he said.

“Due to the close proximity of Shoreham Airport this also meant I was out of the way of any potential air traffic nearby.”

After taking the shots, Scott edited the video together on a long haul flight to Hawaii.

He said: “It’s amazing how technology has progressed, not only to be able to fly around the site safely, but then also to produce this video from an airplane seat.”

Scott said his next challenge is to capture some footage inside the building. This isn’t his first video to go viral – a montage of aerial shots around Sussex has been viewed more than 20,000 times on his YouTube channel.
