VOTE: Should Worthing residents have a say on who is awarded the theatres’ contract?

WORTHING Borough Council has received 13 expressions of interest from organisations who are wanting to operate or acquire the town’s four council-owned entertainment venues.

Several companies, ranging from commercial theatre companies to locally led groups, have expressed an interest in the venues – the Connaught Theatre, RitzDigital, Pavilion Theatre and Assembly Hall.

Now, the council has said it will sit down and read through all the applications before it makes a decision some time in the autumn.

Paul Yallop, leader of the council, said: “The theatres working group will be painstakingly sifting through all the expressions to produce a shortlist over the coming weeks.

“With such a high level of interest, I am hoping for an outcome which will both keep the venues open and reduce the £3,000 daily subsidy required from our council taxpayers.”
