A CHARITY that supports the blind has announced the winner of their Volunteer of the Year Award for 2014.

This year 4SITE’s award goes to Suzie Mettrick, from Lancing, who has been volunteering with the charity for almost nine years.

A club volunteer and driver for the Lancing Self Help Group, members insisted that Suzie was nominated for her award.

4SITE described her as dedicated to all the members, and always happy and enthusiastic to help fundraise, by gathering tombola prizes for every coffee morning they run.

Martin Pearson, 4SIGHT chief executive, said: “The hundreds of volunteers that support 4SIGHT in West Sussex are amazing.

“This is a tribute to all of them, a fantastic group of people, who give so much each week.

“Every year it is a pleasure to give an award to one person who has been nominated by our service users.”

The proud winner was presented with a salver, sweets and flowers, by Mr Pearson, at the weekly club meeting at Seaview Court.

A club member who wishes to remain anonymous said: “All of our volunteers are extremely kind but Suzie is so kind and helpful to everyone.

“I very much appreciate the care she has shown me.”
