Just a Day, by Caroline Hansen

It was just a day

like any other day.

The sun rose in the east

set in the west.

The tide went out

came in again.

People went to work,

children to school.

Shops opened in the morning,

closed in the evening.

Just another day,

an ordinary day

Until -

the bombs went off,

leaving no more days

like any other day

* * *

It was just a day

like any other day

Jets screamed over the city,

and back again.

Explosions everywhere,

people ran for shelter.

Shops were empty,

schools were closed.

Hospitals ran out of medicine.

and hid underground.

Just another day

of carnage and killing

Until -

Justice and Peace joined hands.

Then a new day dawned,

unlike any other day

World of Words is written for creative writers by writers. If you like reading and writing, you’re in the right place!

Do you like to write? We want your poems and stories. Please write to this page and we will be happy to publish the best ones.

Have you had a book published? We’d like to hear all about it – please get in touch.

We have received poems and stories from writers who are as young as 7 and as young at heart as 99. This is your space to be creative - and remember, all the opinions expressed on the page are those of the individual writers, not of WOW.
