A budding young photographer has been “highly commended” in a national photography competition.
Ellen Birch, 16, of Highdown Avenue, Worthing, entered her picture of a dandelion and sunset backdrop to the annual RHS Photographic Competition.
Despite falling outside the top three in the under-18 category, Ellen’s picture was singled out by the judges as one of only three pictures out of 3,000 entered to be commended.
She was awarded a certificate.
Ellen, who attends Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College, Brighton, said her mum told her about the competition but she quickly forgot about it as she didn’t expect to hear anything back.
She said: “It is amazing, I’m really surprised.
“My mum saw it advertised in the Telegraph and told me about it.”
