THE mayor of Worthing paid tribute to the fallen soldier Michael Roland yesterday (Sunday, April 29) during a rededication service.
Guardsman Michael Rowland died on Friday (April 27) after being wounded in a small-arms fire during his service in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.
Ann Barlow laid two posies of flowers during the service, one at the war memorial outside the St Paul’s Centre in Chapel Road, and another at the war memorial outside Worthing Town Hall.
The mayor said she has offered the services of the town to the family, if they should need them.
She said: “We all honoured Michael in the memorial, for he fought for this country so we all can enjoy the freedom we have today. It is a tragic loss for the town and his family, and our sincere condolences go out to them. On behalf of the people of Worthing, I am offering the family any services they may need to help them through this very difficult time.”
