HAVING read the letter in the Herald on April 14, about the AV voting system, it reminded me of a conversation I recently had with my Australian friends about this system of voting.
They all agreed that the AV system in Australia has been totally unsuccessful in obtaining the candidate and government that they voted for. This complex, confusing and largely misunderstood method of voting has not delivered.
I agree with the previous letter writer’s comment that we will be very foolish to go down this path.
I do certainly hope that in the referendum on our voting system, on May 5, we endorse the current “first past the post” method.
