I am sure many readers will share my disgust at the Job Centre’s treatment of Mark Saunders, with his multiple disabilities, as featured on the front page of last week’s Herald.
His next appointment with the Job Centre is due to be held this month, on the telephone.
Has any member of the Job Centre’s staff actually visited Mr Saunders to acquaint themselves with his plight?
I believe one of the problems is that we are in a “tick-box society”, in which official letters and forms contain boxes which must be ticked rather than an explanation being given.
If Mr Saunders has not been visited by a member of the Job Centre’s staff, I call on someone there to do the decent thing – visit him and listen sympathetically to his needs.
Surely, that is not too much to ask?
