Dismay at doctors

I AM just writing to express my dismay at something I discovered yesterday on a routine visit to my doctor’s surgery.

Apparently, a child of 14 years old has to give permission for the parents or guardians to access any medical knowledge about them. In other words, my 14-year-old daughter could have any kind of problem, sexual or otherwise, and I wouldn’t be told if she didn’t want me to know.

So, she could potentially be morally at risk and I, her mother, would be disempowered to help her.

i think it is disgusting that a child who is obviously still emotionally immature should be encouraged to withhold what could be life-saving information from his or her parents.

I bet a lot of readers didn’t realise this either, and I just wonder what other parents think.
