RE: Ian Hart’s column about Tansley & Cooke, my mum and dad bought me a radiogram on HP (hire purchase), a really super, teak piece of furniture, very futuristic at the time, when I was a teenager.
I think the shop was in Chapel Road, somewhere near where Tesco is now, or maybe it was in High Street, when there was a row of shops, where the Guildbourne Centre is now.
Within the row of shops in High Street was a cycle shop where mum and dad bought me my first grown-up bike, a Pink Witch.
It was lovely, a real statement, again of the time!
Ahh, such memories.
