I SHARE Emma Taylor’s disappointment about the low, local election turnout, as expressed in her letter – “Shocking turnout for local elections”.
When talking with my Liberal Democrat and Labour opponents at Tarring’s polling station after it had closed, I made the point that all political parties have a responsibility to do what they can to increase turnout. However, may I remind readers that politics is a two-way street.
There is a need for more people to respond constructively to requests for their views or engage in consultations, as well as voting. The lack of any broadly based response means only the views of the most active tend to be heard; if change is desired, it can only come through taking some action.
