Decorated veteran Cyril Selby’s complaint about dignitaries in the front row on page 6 of the Herald (July 2) is not borne out by the photo on page 12 of the same edition.

In the photo I am on the extreme left, in a black beret wearing the badge of Normandy and three campaign stars.

Next to me is a lady accompanying a Burma Star man in a green beret, bearing a kukri emblem; then two veterans who, like myself, are Brighton Sappers; then another medal wearing veteran; and then a lady in white.

As a 95-year veteran of the Norwegian campaign I was well looked after in the front row.

I wonder how far back Mr Selby was?
