LETTER: Further to last week’s article

Further to the article in last week about the Voice of Progress (VOP), I thought I would enlarge on the details given about this registered charity.

Yes, as previously stated, VOP was founded in 1975, by members in Littlehampton Rotary Club.

The reason it is called ‘Voice of Progress’ is because ‘Progress’ is the motto under the Littlehampton coat of arms.

In fact, when VOP first started it was only for the blind and partially sighted of Littlehampton, but eventually it was decided to include Worthing sight sufferers, too.

Then, as also mentioned in last week’s edition, VOP now encompasses Shoreham and Southwick as well.

Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Littlehampton are still involved with the VOP as either readers or transcribers onto compact disc or cassette tape.

It is hoped eventually to use memory sticks.

These are then placed in pouches, taken to the post sorting office where atricles for the blind are post free by Royal Mail.

Our Rotary Club is always seeking new members, so if any readers would be interested in becoming a Rotarian, and could honour the Rotary motto of ‘Service above Self’, then please contact Geoff Watts on 01903 724198, or send an email: geoffchwatts@yahoo.co.uk
