Littlehampton sewage problems foreseen by many

The 'issues with the capacity of the sewage network' that are holding up road improvements were foreseen by many people and should have been preventable.

There will now, no doubt, be recriminations on all sides, and the blame game will be played out, to the inconvenience of residents and motorists alike.

If the Water Companies in this country had the power and the duty to comment on developments at the planning approval stage, as they are in the Netherlands for instance, we would not have this “let’s see how it goes” that seems to have prevailed, and not just in our neck of the woods. Indeed the House of Lords voted for just this power to be added to the Planning Acts earlier this year; will it sink or will it swim?

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the present predicament, we have not had many chances to improve our infrastructure of late, so could we please have the matter resolved with a degree of haste? Thank you.
