One of our local MPs, Tim Loughton, must be struggling to find things to do locally after he lost his job as children’s minister.
He’s now campaigning on a national issue of tax breaks for married couples, a promise made by his party in the run up to the 2010 election.
Mr Loughton states that a couple on £44.000 would be better off by £150 per year (about £3 per week), hardly worth bothering with, but I suppose it would cover the TV licence fee.
Maybe he’s forgotten or doesn’t know!
A tax break will mean a cut elsewhere (working tax credits) so families will not be better off.
