Members of the Worthing Leisure Centre’s Phoenix Club were delighted with the excellent pullout article on March 6 entitled ‘The Time of Your Life’.

As co-ordinator of the club, I feel there are a few comments that may need clarification: All the facilities, classes and tutors for the 50+ Friday Club are provided by the Worthing Leisure Centre and equipment is included in the provision. There are two levels of watercolour classes, a painters self-help club and a craft group. The singers only meet once a month - usually to prepare entertainment for one of the Phoenix functions.

The article mentions guests are welcome at the monthly speaker lunches, but this is not possible, due to the more than adequate support of the Phoenix members. The afternoon refreshment concession is also available in the mornings, from 10.45am to 11.15am.

Although the club is open to anyone over 50, with an average age of 60, members do need to be active to enjoy the full range of facilities and activities. Age 90, as mentioned in the article, would certainly not be the norm.

Finally, the £5 Friday Afternoon ‘Taster’, will continue for April, from noon to 4pm, and invites participation on two consecutive Friday afternoons. If joining subsequently, the membership fee is £30 for over 50s and £20 for over 60s. After joining, members select which activities they want to participate in and pay for this monthly in advance.
