Smoking ban

The reason for 26 pubs closing every week is staring us in the face: the smoking ban.

The pub was once a centre of the community, a place where an evening could be enjoyed making new friends at the bar. More and more smokers are now drinking at home – soon the traditional pub will be a thing of the past.

Even “smoking only” bars were ruled out on the grounds that staff would be vulnerable to the noxious fumes. The pub’s social benefits have been sacrificed on the altar of government interference.

After all, we know what to expect if we go onto a nudist beach. Surely non-smokers, aware of the dangers, could be free to make up their own minds perhaps once weekly about any associated health risks?
