Surprised by cleaned headstone

I recently visited the church yard at Portfield and checked family graves.

On my great grandfather’s grave – Leonard Lipscombe, born 1847 and died 1928 – I was surprised to see the headstone had been cleaned.

I would be interested to find out who has taken the time to clean a headstone of that size and if anyone can shed some light on why it was done?

Was it done because somebody had an interest in the Lipscombe family?

I would be grateful for any information. Please feel free to email me at i.woodellis@yahoo.co.uk
